General Information

• Rates quoted for each tour are per student including GST
• Free of Charge Ratio - 1 teacher/ adult : per 10 student
• Additional adults are charged at the applicable student rate
• Minimum of 20 students is required for the per student rate to be applicable; with a maximum of 30 people per group/ guide, this includes students, teachers, carers and parent helpers.
• Weekend/ Public Holiday bookings incur an additional $1.10 per person

This perennial favourite is a comprehensive introduction to Australia's European birthplace and the historic precinct’s subsequent importance to our modern society.

This tour allows the student to learn about the lifestyle, social history and heritage of Sydney.

BEATIE BOW’S SYDNEY

Bring alive the era of Ruth Park’s much loved and respected novel, “Playing Beatie Bow”.

Set in The Rocks, students visit Victorian Sydney and through this well researched novel, relate to the social history of 1873.

THE WAY LIFE WAS

Discover Sydney's earliest neighbourhood, The Rocks, and learn how families lived, worked and played in the 19th century.

WHAT’S HERITAGE?
Sydney’s Significant Sites and Structures

The focus of this program is to highlight three significant Heritage and Built Sites within this precinct.

From The Rocks area an evaluation can also be made of two of Sydney’s structural icons, the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.

Aspects of The Rocks local history will assist the students to understand the heritage value of this Place today while exploring the restored buildings and streetscapes.

PAST & PRESENT TIMES
Comparison of Landscapes & Lifestyles in The Rocks

With their specialist local knowledge, our guides share with the children relevant accounts of past times beginning with the area’s local history.

Entertaining stories are expressed through historic events and by interpreting and exploring with the children the heritage built features of The Rocks.

Students are encouraged to analyse and compare the evidence of the lifestyles of yesteryear with their lifestyle today with the assistance of well researched images and significant sites.

A CHANGING PLACE
A Site Study of Sydney’s Oldest Neighbourhood

Students are guided through The Rocks to observe the heritage qualities of this important place in Sydney’s history. With the aid of images, comparisons are made between past and present times.

Stories from the differing periods of change are shared with the children particularly focusing on events that impacted on the generations of people who contributed to the historic nature of Sydney Cove including the Indigenous, Cadigal people.

THE ARRIVAL OF THE FIRST FLEET

Let the story of British Colonisation and its impact on the Eora people unfold for young students. Our resources of A3 images help bring early Sydney town to life together with the narrative skills of our guides.

Issues covered within the tour are:

• The first contact between the Eora and the British
• The Aboriginal way of life before and after colonisation
• Significant people and events that fashioned the British penal colony
• Relevant sites in the development of Sydney

THE ARRIVAL OF THE FIRST FLEET With Costumes

Content of tour is outlined previously but with the addition of convict and soldiers’ costumes together with the real identity of a significant person for each child.

This program has proven to be a popular, instructive and very interactive!

Included in this tour is a visit to either Observatory Hill or Campbell’s Cove, both are very special significant sites in colonial Sydney’s story.
