History and Heritage

Tour Details

Additional details about the tour

History & Heritage offers a comprehensive exploration of The Rocks from 1788 to the present day and is suitable for both upper primary and secondary students.

Beginning at Sydney Cove, students examine how this area developed from a colonial port into one of Australia’s most important heritage precincts. As students walk through restored streets, laneways and historic buildings, they interpret the built environment as historical evidence.

Key themes include British colonisation and its impact on the Cadigal people, daily life in early Sydney, the bubonic plague of 1900, and the resumption and restoration of The Rocks. The tour supports syllabus units including The Australian Colonies, Expanding Colonies, and Making a Nation.

Tour Reviews

The guides knew we were focusing on disease and made many valuable observations throughout the tour that will be valuable to reflect on back in the classroom. Anne and Anne were both great tour guides and customised the content to fit our current topic in science and geography and made many valuable observations throughout the tour that will be valuable to reflect on back in the classroom.

I just wanted to extend my thanks for the excellent walking tour organised by your team. Harry was fantastic—engaging, knowledgeable, and great with the students. They thoroughly enjoyed the excursion. I would happily rate all aspects of the experience a 5 out of 5. And if you could guarantee a spectacular sunny winter’s day like Monday’s, it would be the perfect bonus for all your future clients! We look forward to working with you again next year
